Things to do in Busan.

The second city's bookable highlights: the temple on the rocks and the painted hillside village, the capsule railway running above Haeundae, and the bay after dark, when the bridges light up.

The Busan Day Tour

One day, the whole city: the Ahopsan bamboo forest, Haedong Yonggungsa temple on the rocks and the Cheongsapo fishing village, then the market quarter of Jagalchi, BIFF Square and Gukje, finishing in the painted lanes of Gamcheon Culture Village.

How to book: Busan's sights are spread along a long coast, so most first-time visitors take a tour rather than string buses together. The button below books the full-day guided tour, with hotel pickup in Busan.

Gamcheon Culture Village

The hillside village built by Korean War refugees in the 1950s, its houses stacked in terraces so no home blocks another's light, repainted from 2009 by the Village Art Project into Busan's most photographed neighbourhood: murals, workshops and cafes in lanes where people still live.

How to book: The village is free to wander; the stamp map at the information centre costs a small fee, and early or late in the day the lanes are quietest. The button below books a full-day tour that pairs the village with Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, the Songdo Skywalk and the old town markets, lunch included.

Haeundae Blueline Park

The old coastal railway east of Haeundae, rebuilt in 2020 as a 4.8 kilometre seaside park: the Beach Train runs from Mipo to Songjeong at ground level while the Sky Capsules glide the two kilometres above it to Cheongsapo, four passengers to a capsule, at walking pace.

How to book: Capsule tickets are timed and sell out days ahead on the park's own site; they are the hard part of a Busan trip. The button below books the sunset tour that secures a capsule seat and continues into the night views at Cheongsapo and Gwangan Bridge.

The Busan Night Cruise

An evening on the water from Suyeongman Bay: the yacht sails under the lit Gwangan Bridge and past Marine City, with a fireworks show over the bay, then the tour climbs Hwangnyeongsan for the whole city lit below and ends under the Busan Cinema Centre's great roof.

How to book: Everyone boarding needs ID, the cruise is weather dependent, and dinner is not included, so eat first. The button below books the small-group night tour, hotel pickup in Busan included. It runs its own fireworks on ordinary nights; the Fireworks Festival itself is a separate November event.

Planning the stay itself: the area guides cover what is on, and the hotels page covers where to sleep near it.
